Buggy Bootcamp – keeping Mums sane since 2012
Motherhood is perhaps the biggest lifestyle change that any woman can go through – and founder of Buggy Bootcamp, Carly Steggles, wanted to use exercise as a means to support that change.
“Buggy Bootcamp is much more than just a fitness class with coffee meet ups, seminars and nights out. We believe that a happy, healthy, supported Mum is a good Mum and have created a group that fosters this belief – everyone is really welcoming (no judgemental Mums here, just normal girls working out as they go!) and our emphasis is on the mental and wellbeing benefits of exercising and getting out of the door for movement and fresh air during those first few months.”
Hour long classes run down at the quieter Queenscliff end of Manly Beachfront and in the secluded Aitken Reserve, with daily buggy friendly options at 8.15am, 8.45am and/or 9.30am as well as baby free 7pm sessions three times a week. There is no need to book in meaning the classes are suitable for new Mums who might not always make it out of the front door when they intended to!
Carly emphasises that “Whilst it is important to get out and moving as soon as you are able, it is vital to ease back into exercise gently and make sure the exercises are safe for any abdominal separation (no sit ups, Russian twists or crunches!) and pelvic floor concerns (no running or jumping until these muscles are strong enough – we don’t want anything falling out! 😉 ). We also recommend getting a full check up with a post-natal physio before starting exercise again – if nothing else just to have the peace of mind that you are not doing yourself any harm so that you can exercise worry free. Those interested in starting Buggy Bootcamp receive an optional discounted assessment with a local physio.”
